We are always interested to see what visitors and tourists think about Ireland, what experiences they've made when they visited or even lived on the Emerald Isle and what their recommendations for future visitors might be. You might remember our French Hotelsireland.com colleague Alice who came to us (and Ireland) about a year ago and shared her experiences with us in her blog posts. She will be leaving Ireland soon to go back to France and we took the opportunity to ask her some questions about her experiences here on the Emerald Isle. See her answers here

Last week, we gave you some ideas on how to beat the January Blues - and here is one more: head South to County Cork to visit Blarney Castle, 8 km northwest from Cork city …. and kiss the famous Blarney Stone!!

A bit of history

The Castle has not always been as it is nowadays. It’s actually the third monument that was built on the site. The first building in the tenth century was a wooden structure that was replaced in 1200 by a stone structure which had the entrance some twenty feet above the ground!! This building was demolished and finally in 1446 the actual castle was built by Dermot McCarthy, King of Munster.
