The Home of the “Black Stuff” – the Guinness Storehouse Dublin

25 Feb

Of all Irish products Guinness may be one of the most famous… or even THE most famous! Indeed, you get a pint of “the Black Stuff” all over the world,  in around 150 countries! Right here, in it’s home town Dublin, Ireland, Guinness even has its own “museum”, the Guinness Storehouse, where you can learn all about it’s history, follow every step of  the production process, cooperage and transportation, and, of course, enjoy a glass (or more) of the famous Irish Stout.

Your journey in “the marvellous world of Guinness” starts by standing at the bottom of the world’s largest pint glass, which rises up through the centre of the seven storey building. At the bottom of the glass atrium you will see the 9 000-year lease that Arthur Guinness, the founder, signed on the St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin. This lease marks the beginning of Guinness Success Story.

On the  first floor you will learn the different steps of its production. The Stout is made from four natural ingredients – water, barley, hops and yeast. You will discover the brewing process and its secrets that allow crafting the perfect pint. And after theory…practice!! You will be invited to taste your first sample of Guinness.

After being produced, Guinness needs to be conserved and transported. You will learn all this thanks to a film about the craft of the coopers who made the wooden barrels which were used to transport the stout across the globe.

Then explore the transportation methods used to take Guinness from St James’s Gate and beyond. These methods could even include horses, trains, barges, ships…

Your journey will end in the Gravity Bar, on the seventh floor of the building, where you will be able to taste the perfect pint of Guinness and at the same time admire the breathtaking panoramic 360° views of Dublin city and beyond.

To make this journey unforgettable, you will have the possibility to buy gifts and souvenirs in the Guinness Store. There, you can also create or collect your personalized bottle of Foreign Extra Stout.
